KATC honored in 2021 Diamond Journalism Awards
The KATC press team has won two awards at the 2021 Diamond Journalism Awards.
The regional competition is organized by the Arkansas Pro Chapter, Society of Professional Journalists, recognizing excellence in journalism in seven states (Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas).
All entries were published or aired in 2020. The program drew a record 393 entries in 75 categories. Members of SPJ’s Cincinnati Pro Chapter served as judges.

1st: after Hurricane Laura, staff, KATC-TV (Lafayette, LA)
In the aftermath of Hurricane Laura, anyone crossing southwest Louisiana would encounter trees and power lines strewn across the streets. Large numbers of communities, already facing challenges from the pandemic, suffer another major setback from Laura to tackle Hurricane Delta just six weeks later.
2nd: Resilient, Andrew Clay, KATC
Heading into a highly anticipated 2020 varsity softball season, KATC Sports Presents: Resilient is a two-part story chronicling the challenges Louisiana softball has overcome since 2018. Part one looks at the sacking of Louisiana. Michael Lotief, a once loved and successful trainer. His dismissal threatened the collapse of the program, but new head coach Gerry Glasco resurrected the culture of the program and wins followed.
